Robin Robilliard

Robin Robilliard’s book, Hard Country is a memoir of Robin’s eighty years of life, and what she has learnt from living in one of the country’s most isolated regions, behind the infamous Takaka Hill in Golden Bay. In 1957 Robin and her husband took on 1500 acres of the worst type of land in New Zealand – rocky, mountainous, covered in bracken and gorse, where the three previous owners had been bankrupted. She wrote of her struggles for the Auckland Weekly, was a guest on Beauty and the Beast and wrote two series of social studies books. In “a miracle opportunity” in the 1980’s, she spent 4-6 weeks a year studying life in foreign countries and wrote various newspaper articles.
