Sandra Coney

Sandra Coney comes from a family with long roots at Piha, on the West Coast of Auckland. She has represented Waitakere on the Auckland Regional Council, Auckland Council and is currently Chair of the Waitakere Ranges Local Board, as well as a board member of the Waitemata DHB. Her writing history goes back to editorship of the feminist magazine Broadsheet, regular newspaper columns, and the authorship of 18 books. Coney has won awards for journalism and local history writing and is currently writing about Piha’s kauri bushmen who went to WWI.
