Geoff Chapple

Geoff Chapple has written six books of non-fiction, including the people’s protest book 1981: The Tour,  on the divisive Springbok Rugby Tour, and  Rewi Alley of China. Alley was also the subject of his opera libretto, performed at the 1998 New Zealand International Festival of the Arts, with music by Jack Body. He has written radio drama and television scripts, and co-wrote the screenplay of Vincent Ward’s acclaimed film The Navigator. His play Hatch was a feature of the 2007 Auckland Festival of the Arts. Geoff founded the New Zealand-long tramping track Te Araroa, which opened in 2011. In 2012 he was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to tramping, tourism and literature.  His latest book is Terrain: travels through a deep landscape (2015).
