THE BELLBIRDS - LIVE MUSIC

Sponsored by South Pacific Pictures

The Bellbirds formed in 2009. The band consists of four of Auckland's best and most loved voices and extraordinary songsmiths: Sandy Mill, vocals and percussion; Victoria Kelly, vocals and piano organ; Don McGlashan, vocals, guitar, various instruments; and Sean Donnelly (aka SJD), vocals, guitar and bass. With so much musical talent on one stage, this is an auditory treat you do not want to miss.

Sandy Mill is a vocalist, songwriter, percussionist, and vinyl DJ. A prolific performer, her current involvements include her own project the Sandy Mill Band; the New Telepathics, a 12-piece afro punk band; being the mum half of DJ duo Mum n Dad Disco; part of the soulful house music duo Soul Suite and a regular performer with the SJD band and The Bellbirds.

Victoria Kelly is a composer, performer and producer of music and also the Director of NZ Member Services at APRA AMCOS. She composes contemporary classical music as well as music for film, television and theatre. She has worked as a musical director and composer for large scale events and television and has arranged orchestral music for other artists.

Don McGlashan is a singer, performer and songwriter. He was in From Scratch, Blam Blam Blam, The Front Lawn and The Mutton Birds. He has been performing solo or with different line-ups for several years now, touring New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Europe and Canada. He has twice won the APRA Silver Scroll for his songwriting. He’s looking forward to reuniting with his dear friends The Bellbirds, and always loves being part of the Going West Festival, as this is his neighbourhood.

Sean James Donnelly produces music that is a mix of electronica, pop-rock, and soul. He is revered across the country as one of our most talented musicians. He has made seven albums to date, characterised by inventive and eclectic song-writing. He won the 2013 Taite Music Prize for his album Elastic Wasteland.
