Literal/Littoral

Poet, dramatist and educator Murray Edmond collaborates with sand artist David Hilliam aka Beachtagger, and filmmaker Luke McPake, to create a magical moment of large-scale landscape poetry at a wild, west coast beach.

Edmond and some fellow poets immerse themselves in three poetic forms – couplets, calligrams and cinquains – within the natural beauty of The Glade at North Piha. Then the intrepid poets emerge on the vast, sandy expanse of Auckland’s west coast to etch their work into the beach, between the tides.

Edmond’s own poem – Literal/Littoral – was commissioned by Going West for the Different Out Loud project: a season of videos celebrating the diverse beauty of the Waitākere Ranges.
