Going West

Going West, an intimate experience with our best and most loved writers and thinkers

Once again in 2017, for the 22nd year in a row, the Going West Books & Writers Festival brought New Zealand’s best and most loved writers, in discussion and performance, to the wonderful West Auckland region. With 44 live events across 10 venues, we directly engaged over 3500 people in great New Zealand stories and astute perspectives on our changing world, in a perfect mix of hilarious and serious conversations.

We send a heartfelt thank-you to all our writers, facilitators, performers, sponsors, partner organisations, patrons, suppliers, staff, crew and especially to our wonderful audience - whose laughter, tears and feedback made it all worthwhile. We look forward to coming together with you all again in September 2018.

Going West’s opening was abuzz.

The conversation just flowed – it felt unafraid of anything: wisdom, human warmth, tough stuff, vulnerabilities, empathy.
